We've gone to great lengths to make MightyBackup simple and easy for even the most non-technical users. For those users interested in understanding the technology beneath MightyBackup's user-friendly interface, we offer this brief explanation of technical nuances of the service.
Architectural Overview
The MightyBackup application includes three primary components: the client application, the web portal application, and the
MightyBackup server. The carrier's wireless data network provides the data bearer for the application.
Users download and install the application onto their phone from the carrier, often through an in-phone catalog. Once installed, the application communicates to the MightyBackup server through the Internet. It opens an IP-based connection to transmit packet data over the carrier's wireless network.
Backup and restore operations follow a published open standard known as SyncML. The MightyBackup client includes a SyncML-compliant data synchronization engine which transacts with a SyncML gateway server that is part of the MightyBackup server infrastructure.
Data is stored in the secure MightyBackup data center operated by FusionOne. Users may view their data using a web browser by logging onto their account in the MightyBackup web PIM application. The MightyBackup server includes a web application server to provide this functionality.
FusionOne MightyBackup Service
Client Architecture
The MightyBackup application includes a user interface, a SyncML client data synchronization engine, a communications interface,
preferences settings, and an address book application interface.
For our BREW specific application, all operations on the BREW handset conform to standard BREW platform norms and access to communications, data storage for preference settings and the address book application interface rely on published BREW platform interfaces (APIs).
Server Architecture
The MightyBackup server utilizes FusionOne's data synchronization platform. It relies on many of the same infrastructure components
as other FusionOne services, including MightyPhone. The MightyBackup SyncML gateway is a specific implementation of FusionOne's
SyncML data synchronization service, which has been certified with the SyncML organization.
The entire MightyBackup server runs in a data center maintained and operated by FusionOne. The FusionOne data synchronization infrastructure was designed specifically to scale and to support millions of users and large numbers of simultaneous client interactions.
